CRIT's

Elizabeth Handy's CRIT

In the CRIT I discovered that Elizabeth's work was focusing on architecture and street art within her local environment, as well as places which have close meaning to herself. The beginning of her project was solely focused on documenting her interests through photographs, creating them into postcards and displaying them as a mood board for inspiration. From her documentation, Liz had created some collages using photographs she had taken, pulling out parts of the photographs in which were most interesting.

From the PowerPoint which Liz had shown, there was plenty of feedback which she could take on. Suggestions included:

1. Using the collages Liz could create them on a larger scale, either printing the photographs large in the same style or hand drawing the elements of interest.

2. Due to there being an interest in graffiti, taking the likes of the plain architectural photographs, she could blow them up in size and hand paint onto them. Creating her own graffiti style and also perhaps trying her skill at using spray paint.

3. Besides spray painting onto large photographs, Liz could also look for some wall space available either in or out of university (with permission) and create her own mural.

4. As for artists in which she could look at, one is Frank Styles who is a local mural graffiti artist. Another artist is Okuda San Miguel, who is a graffiti artist who uses his own geometric style and colour scheme to rejuvenate old architecture and give different areas a new sign of life.

I really enjoyed sitting in on Elizabeth's CRIT and giving her some ideas for her project and I also look forward to see how her project evolves in the future.

Personal CRIT

This was my first croup CRIT which my work was part of. I showed five pieces of my current project which were some of my well finished pieces. these included; two continuous line drawings, two block coloured character styled paintings and my 'DON'T LOOK @ ME!' piece.

When asked what people thought my project was about, some people thought i was just focusing on portraitures of different people in different styles.

The feedback I got on my continuous line drawings was that I could make them into screen prints, blending different colours together. Whether this be to fill in the lines of the continuous lines or to create a solid background to add the continuous line to.

My Character paintings were said to look like a giant sculpture of people from a distance, which was then given the idea of creating a giant sculpture from clay of lots of miniature sculptures of people.

Artists I was given to research was Laura Lancaster who takes old photos and re-paints them, distorting the faces of each person. Another artist I was given to research was John Currin who creates photorealistic painting of people but gives them a distorted look by giving them elongated necks or giant unrealistic features.

From this CRIT i will take the feedback given and develop my work further.
